It was great to see our athletes at Landy Field again last Saturday. We love hearing about all the new friendships that are being formed, as well as the personal bests that have been achieved across all the track and field events. You can see photos from last week’s competition on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Also, a huge welcome to our new families and athletes who have joined our South Barwon community this week, after completing their trials. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to come and see us at the South Barwon table this weekend.
This week
This week at Landy Field, we’re back to Program 2, which means there are walks on the schedule for our athletes aged 9 and up. All athletes wanting to take part in the walks events need to wear shorts that are a minimum of 10cm above the knee – no leggings or trackpants.
Please join the Geelong Little Athletics community on the Stack Team App for the list of first events. First calls for events will be from 8am.
South Barwon uniforms and bibs
If you still need South Barwon uniform, this is the last week that we will samples available to try at the South Barwon area, as well as a few second hand items for sale. All items will be available for purchase using cash or card.
We will still have our South Barwon visors available for sale until stocks run out – so get in quick to claim yours and help us raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal.
Geelong Little Athletics Centre Uniforms
Those athletes who are competing in the upcoming relay championships will need to wear Geelong Little Athletics Centre uniform for their events. Second hand uniforms can often be picked up via the Geelong Athletics Buy and Sell Facebook Group and new items can be purchased from the competition office.
Athlete of the Week: Asher V
For those new to the club, each week we present an award to one athlete who embodies the values we love to see in our juniors – determination, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
Thanks to our generous sponsor McDonald’s Belmont, the recipient receives a voucher to celebrate their efforts. This week’s Athlete of the Week goes to Asher V for showing incredible courage and perseverance.
After an accident last year, Asher was understandably hesitant to return to hurdles – and even unsure if he would come back to Little Athletics at all. But fast forward to Week 4, and as you can see below, Asher has truly overcome his fear, stepping back onto the track and giving it his all once again. Great work Asher. Make sure you come by the South Barwon area this week to claim your voucher.

Volunteering
Athletics can’t happen without the support of our parents and carers, and all families are required to volunteer a minimum of 3 duties per season. But don’t worry, we have a chief in charge at each event who will show you what is required and be there to help all the way through the day.
Thank you for our week 4 volunteers. We are full for this week but still needing two volunteers for Saturday 8 November. This would be a good opportunity to help out and join our volunteer community.
Simply click through to our sign up form now or scan on the QR code at the volunteer table this Saturday to nominate your preferred duty and date.
