What a fantastic competition we had last Saturday! Despite the difficulties with the Landy Field sound system, the South Barwon spirit shone through with smiles and successes throughout the sprints, walks and field events. You can see some photos of both our Little Athletics and Seniors competitions last Saturday on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
We’re hoping that we’ll be able to return to the normal system of listening out for event announcements this coming Saturday, but we’ve also shared the first events below. Geelong Little Athletics publishes these weekly via the Stack Teams App (search for Geelong Little Athletics once you’ve downloaded the app).
This week is Program 3 and is another qualifying week for our Geelong Relay teams for those athletes aged 9 and up. Over the next couple of weeks, athletes will be invited via email to join the Geelong teams depending on their times in the sprint events (100m, 200m and 400m). Relays are coordinated at a centre level, rather than by South Barwon, but if you have any questions about how they are run, please don’t hesitate to come by the South Barwon area this weekend.
Also, if you still need uniform, we will have all sizes available to try each Saturday morning until October 25. All uniform items will be available for purchase using cash or card. If you have old uniform that you would like to donate or sell, please see the Stack Team App for more information.
Coles Patches and Competition Bibs
A reminder to all our families that it is compulsory to have a Coles patch sewn (or stuck with fabric glue) on all uniform t-shirts and singlets. We are unable to share photos of athletes who do not have Coles patches on their uniform.
Please remember to bring your competition bib each week as there is a charge to have these reprinted. We would suggest keeping your bibs in the glove box in the car, or just taking them off while you wash the uniforms and pinning them back on straight afterwards. (Please don’t put bibs in the wash!)
Training
Thanks to the generous support of JJ’s Track Squad, South Barwon is able to offer free training sessions to our registered athletes this year. Please see the email sent out to all members this week for times and dates of our training sessions.
Athlete of the week: Emily M
For those new to the club, each week we present an award to one athlete who embodies the values we love to see in our juniors — determination, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
Thanks to our generous sponsor McDonald’s Belmont, the recipient receives a voucher to celebrate their efforts. This week’s Athlete of the Week goes to Emily M for displaying outstanding kindness and leadership during the Under 9 Girls Walk event. Well done, Emily! Don’t forget to collect your McDonald’s voucher from the tent this Saturday.
Volunteers
Athletics can’t happen without the support of our parents and carers, and all families are required to volunteer a minimum of 3 duties per season. But don’t worry, we have a chief in charge at each event who will show you what is required and be there to help all the way through the day.
This week’s volunteers
